HARLEM LADY BULLDOGS

Head Coach: Jonathan Holley

Assistant Coach (s): Mike Leverett

2006 record: 19-11

College Prospects: SS Kacee Camp (Sr., 5-7); RHP Brittany Newsome (Sr., 5-5)

Returning starters: 2B Samantha OBrien (Sr., 5-2); 3B/1B Kristen Pitchford (Sr., 5-9); LF Jasmine Anderson (Sr., 5-6); RF Amanda Scruggs (Sr., 5-7); CF Alana Dyson (Jr., 5-3); SS Kacee Camp (Sr., 5-7); RHP Brittany Newsome (Sr., 5-5)

Other returning players: 3B Rachael Fearneyhough (Sr., 5-2); C Ashley Waites (Jr., 5-9)

Top newcomers: None supplied

Season outlook: Seven returning starters are back for Harlem, which should make a run at the region crown this season. A strong group of seniors could help the Lady Bulldogs be one of the states top teams. Keep an eye on infielder Kacee Camp and pitcher Brittany Newsome. Both had excellent seasons in 2006. Centerfielder Alana Dyson, only a junior, returns after a stellar sophomore season.

Assistant Coach (s): Adrian Chapple, Keith McGee

2006 record: 5-11

College Prospects: None supplied

Returning starters: 3B Chelsea OQuinn (Sr.); C Courtney Miles (Sr.); 1B Nicole Graham (Sr.); SS Ashley McRae (Sr.); RHP Cassie Standard (Jr.); OF Tyshunn Williams (Jr.); OF Nazerene Hines (Jr.); RHP Chantel Breeden (Jr.)

Other returning players: LF Kayley Bitzer (Sr.); 2B Katie Haymans (Sr.); 3B Dominique Sibley (So.)

Top newcomers: None supplied

Season outlook: Only two starters graduated off last seasons team, leaving Liberty County with high expectations this fall. The Lady Panthers have a strong senior class returning and a talented group of juniors, which should have Liberty challenging for a postseason berth. Some offense, however, must step forward. Only Cassi Standard (.354 avg.) batted above .300 last year.

Season outlook: After losing just three starters off last years team which made the state tournament in Columbus, South Effingham should pick up from where it left off last year. Talented pitchers Alison Kirkland (25-3, 0.29 ERA) and Sally Faircloth (11-2, 0.34 ERA) are back, while leading hitter Joni Lynn (.450 avg., 2 HR, 30 RBIs) returns to ignite the offense.

WASHINGTON COUNTY LADY GOLDEN HAWKS

Head Coach: Kevin Mobley

Assistant Coach (s): Matt Price

2006 record: 8-12

College Prospects: RHP Ashlee Adams (Sr.)

Returning starters: 1B Laura Doolittle (Jr.); 3B Kodi Thigpen (So.); OF Kelli Dixon (Jr.); SS Brianna Brown (Jr.); RHP/INF Ashlee Adams (Sr.); RHP/INF Kaitlyn Brooks (Jr.); OF Lindsey Williford (So.); C Shelly Glover (So.)

Other returning players: OF Alyssa McCoy (So.); OF Kelly Cabe (So.); OF Shantress Stephens (Sr.)

Top newcomers: None supplied

Season outlook: Washington County showed significant improvement last fall after winning just one game in 2005. The Lady Hawks could continue their improvement this year as eight starters return, including pitchers Ashlee Adams and Kaitlyn Brooks. The team is still relatively young. A talented group of juniors and sophomores will be expected to carry the load.
