REGION 4-AAAAA

REGION 4-AAAAA

EAST COWETA LADY INDIANS

Head Coach: Franklin DeLoach

Assistant Coach (s): Mark Bowles, Mike Richardson

2006 record: 22-8

College Prospects: OF Lisaira Daniles (Sr., 5-7); SS/C Jordan Martin (Sr., 5-4)

Returning starters: RHP Alison Owen (So., 5-10); RHP Christina Ezell (So., 5-7); OF Lisaira Daniles (Sr., 5-7); SS/C Jordan Martin (Sr., 5-4)

Other returning players: C/1B Rebecca Cresswell (So., 5-6); OF Shirley Daniels (So., 5-6); SS/2B Megan Downes (So., 5-6); RHP/INF Taylor Gaston (Jr., 5-6); 1B/OF K.C. Mack (Jr., 5-6)

Top newcomers: None supplied

Season outlook: Despite returning just four starters, East Coweta should be the Region 4-AAAAA preseason favorites. The biggest reason is because of a pair of talented sophomore pitchers in Alison Owen (7-2, 0.65 ERA) and Christina Ezell (7-3, 0.32 ERA). Offensive standouts Lisaira Daniles (.346 avg., 12 SB) and Jordan Martin (.300 avg., 4 2B) also return.

MORROW LADY MUSTANGS

Head Coach: Candice Jones

Assistant Coach (s): Felecia Williams

2006 record: 3-11

College Prospects: CF Christian Dunn (Sr.)

Returning starters: RHP K. Banks (Jr.); 3B T. Melvin (Jr.); CF C. Dunn (Sr.); LF K. Patrick (So.); SS S. Chandler (So.); 1B L. Myrick (So.); RF B. Martin (So.)

Other returning players: C L. Wynn (Sr.); RF C. McGrew (So.)

Top newcomers: None supplied

Season outlook: Morrow improved significantly as the 2006 season progressed last year. The Lady Mustangs hope to build off last years late-season success. Seven starters return, including senior Christian Dunn (.316 avg., 5 RBIs). If some younger players continue to mature, Morrow could improve upon last years record.

Head Coach: Patrick Smith

Assistant Coach (s): Terry Garner

2006 record: 6-11

College Prospects: C Sharri Shipp (Sr., 5-9)

Returning starters: RHP Bryonne Ballard (So., 5-7); 1B Brandi Ballard (Sr., 5-10); SS Brittney Strick (So., 5-5); CF Alyssa Strickland (So., 5-5); RF TaShay McKnight (Sr., 5-7); 2B Ashley Rogers (Sr., 5-8); C/RF Nikki Ogunnoiki (Sr., 5-7); C Sharri Shipp (Sr., 5-9)

Other returning players: 1B Ashley Barclay (Sr., 5-11); RF Hollis Brown (Sr., 5-11); 3B Renita Richardson (Jr., 5-5)

Top newcomers: None supplied

Season outlook: Expect Mundys Mill to be much-improved this fall after struggling to just six wins in 2006. Eight starters are back to help the Lady Tigers contend for a postseason berth. If the pitching staff can perform consistently, keep an eye on this team as plenty of offense returns. Bryonne Ballard (.512 avg.), Sharri Shipp (.350 avg.) and Brandi Ballard (.340 avg.) are back.

NEWNAN LADY COUGARS

Head Coach: Carrie Gilmore

Assistant Coach (s): Amanda Sherrer, Marc Gilmore

2006 record: 19-11

College Prospects: None supplied

Returning starters: OF Diane McCarty (Jr.); 3B/RHP Kayla Heggood (So.); RHP/1B Kayla Vallery (Jr.); OF Wimberley Larkey (Jr.); U AJ Hill (Jr.)

Other returning players: OF Mallory Gray (Sr.); OF/3B Heather Richards (Sr.); U Brooke Steed (Sr.); U Alicia LeVasseur (So.); 2B/OF Macy McCoy (Jr.)

Top newcomers: C Molly Garmany (Fr.)

Season outlook: The Lady Cougars should once again jockey for a postseason berth after making the state sectionals last year. Newnan returns five starters from that team. The good news is that pitchers Kayla Heggood and Kayla Vallery return to give the Lady Cougars experience. The team will be young. Unlike last season, the Lady Cougars have just a handful of returning seniors.
